Goethe University of Frankfurt




Goethe University in Frankfurt (German full name: Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main) is a university that was founded in 1914 as University of citizens, which means that while it was a university State of Prussia, who had been founded and financed by the wealthy and active liberal citizenry of Frankfurt am Main, a unique feature in the history of the German university. It was named in 1932 after one of the most famous native of Frankfurt, the poet and writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Therefore, it is also known as "Goethe University" in formal or informal occasions. Today, the university has 46,000 students, in 4 main campus in the city.

Several Nobel laureates have been affiliated with the university as Max von Laue. The university is also affiliated with 11 winners of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize. The University celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014, and the first woman president of the University, Prof. Dr. Birgitta Wolff, was sworn in on 2015.environment.

The UOD has therefore a mission to supply a population educated the public and private sectors, while making value-added research. The university by the government mainly depends on the assistance while remaining firm on maintaining an independent state
