University of Duhok



The University of Duhok (UOD) is a fast-growing institution in the city of Duhok. It plays a vital role in the development of the community by instigating the socioeconomic, cultural, scientific and educational progress in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Graduates of the University of Duhok currently contribute to building and enhancing capacity in the public and private sectors in the Dohuk Governorate Duhok University was founded on October 31, 1992, following a resolution of Parliament of the Kurdistan Regional Government to address the growing demand for higher education in the region. The first schools to be established in the university were the Faculty of Medicine and the College of Agriculture. Initially, the Medical College had 48 students, while the College of Agriculture was 166. During the first two years, the two embargoes imposed by the UN in Iraq and the central government in Iraqi Kurdistan contributed to the slow growth rate of the University and poor economic conditions in Kurdistan. After these difficulties had passed, the university was in a position to lead towards progress and fresh growth. Today, the UOD has 17 universities with 76 departments, more than 17149 undergraduate students and 655 graduate students. The UOD offers facilities such as laboratories, libraries, computer facilities, sports facilities, housing accommodation and extra-curricular all students enrolled in order to inspire the ambition and excellence in a nurturing environment of learning activities. The UOD has therefore a mission to supply a population educated the public and private sectors, while making value-added research. The university by the government mainly depends on the assistance while remaining firm on maintaining an independent state
